    The Teaching Associate is a traveling and teaching position that is also responsible for course coordination and on-site course/workshop organization. This individual coordinates training classes and teaches some of the on-demand and/or technical course offerings that are identified as part of LTRC's workforce development priorities. This position prepares course content, visual aids, and other resources necessary to meet any programmatic focus areas including, but not limited to: road and worker safety, infrastructure management, workforce development, and organizational excellence. Develop and teach training materials used by the Louisiana Transportation Research Center, jointly sponsored by LSU and the Louisiana Department of Transportation (DOTD).

    20% Facilitates training activities and assists subject matter experts in the coordination and delivery of other courses on various locations. Works with program staff in booking dates and locations of training; pre-and-post preparation of course materials and other logistical needs. Determines the most logical source of obtaining additional information by using data gathering techniques such as interviews with subject matter experts, manufacturers, educational institutions, technical societies, surveys, focus groups, etc. Reviews a wide variety of literature for new ideas for training statewide employees in program's core areas and priorities.

    15% Provides classroom instruction for technical and workforce development courses at training locations across Louisiana on selected topics. Serves as a specialized subject matter expert in any of the workforce development areas identified to be a priority in the organizational work plan or by LTRC (e.g. Infrastructure Management, Road and Worker Safety, Leadership and Management, Conflict Management, Grant Writing, Communicating with the Public & Media).

    15% Organizes draft manuscripts to provide a plan for the preparation of text.  Prepares draft of the manuscript in accordance with a detailed outline.  Writes text, determines graphic design, photos, tables, etc., needed to supplement text.  Meets with subject matter review committee to discuss comments and revisions for draft training materials and revises text to meet requirements. Serves as a specialized expert on a project basis for individual technical area. Prepares detailed lectures, visual aids, and other teaching methods for use in a classroom environment; teaches target population the materials developed by using various presentation methods and presentation skills necessary to meet audience need.

    10% Validates training materials; including setting up meetings for test subjects, monitoring course effectiveness, running statistical analysis of test results and making reports on validation process and results.  Maintains special course scheduling, calendar maintenance, course logistics, instructor assignments.   Partners with other state agencies or institutions to develop job-related training materials. Conducts train-the-trainer presentations during implementation conferences. 

    10% Evaluates training needs, designs, develops, and teaches training program materials to DOTD and transportation industry personnel with a wide diversity of technical knowledge, education, and literacy skills. Develops and revises materials used in the training courses that comprise the job related formal training curriculum for each level of a DOTD employee’s career path.  Consults with  administrators to determine training needs, recommends policy or procedural changes, and then locates training materials and resources that are appropriate for use in introducing new technology to DOTD employees.

    10% Assesses technology transfer material in terms of training needs establishment, and if necessary recommends revision.  Reviews and evaluates management and instructional literature to keep abreast of changes to find new materials, case studies, and exercises to be used in classroom training, and develops synopses for technology transfer and distribution.

    10% Determines the most logical source of obtaining additional information by using data gathering techniques such as interviews with subject matter experts, manufacturers, educational institutions, technical societies, surveys, focus groups, etc.  

    10% Works with top administrators on special assignments as needed. Assists in the management of two learning management systems, including data entry, record updates, report generation on mainframe computer for the training records of DOTD personnel; grades test materials used for promotional purposes. Serves as lead worker, trains, and orients new employees in correct unit procedures, including student workers. 

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's degree and 5 years experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Adult Education, HREWD, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Program Evaluation, or related field.

    5 years of experience in a related field.

    Teaching and/or training experience.

    Additional Requirements

    A valid driver's license is required. This position is subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with PS-67.
