Before the Workshop:

Participants will complete the CliftonStrengths assessment prior to attending.

The personalized assessment code will be emailed directly from Gallup.
No refunds will be issued once assessment codes are distributed.

Presented by Certified Strengths Coach: Dr. Missy Korduner

Dr. Missy Korduner is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice and the MS Graduate Programs Coordinator/Academic Advisor for the LSU School of Leadership and Human Resource Development. In addition to her faculty role, she is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach and leadership coach and workshop facilitator with the Leadership Development Institute at LSU. In 2025, she was selected as one of four Faculty Fellows for Student Success with the LSU Pinkie Gordon Lane Graduate School.

Dr. Korduner has worked in higher education for over 23 years as both staff and faculty. Her areas of expertise include: strengths-based development; program planning and implementation; student leader training and development; leadership development; academic advising; and extended orientation and transition programs. She has presented at several conferences on strengths-based development, academic advising, online student communities, and extended orientation programs and published a book chapter in 2025 on using coaching to influence educator retention and well-being.

Aside from her professional experience, Dr. Korduner is actively involved in local and national organizations. She currently serves as the Past President of LACADA - the Louisiana Academic Advising Association, Chair for the Junior League of Baton Rouge Diaper Bank Committee, Vice President of her son's school PTO, and a member of the Legislative Committee with Pi Beta Phi. Previously, she served on the board of ATD Baton Rouge in a variety of roles including President and served on two national ATD Committees - the ALC Program Advisory Committee and the Chapter Recognition Committee, where she served as co-chair in 2025.

She earned her Ph.D. in Human Resource Education from LSU and her MA in Education (Higher Education/Student Affairs) and BA in Music from UCONN. When she is not working, supporting students on their educational journey, or volunteering her time, she enjoys spending time with John, her husband of 22 years, Liam, her 9 year old son, and Ani, Max, and Brutus, her three rescue puppies.

Most leadership and talent development begins with a reasonable question: What does this person need to learn or do differently? We build competencies, teach new skills, provide feedback, and coach toward different behaviors. Yet most of us have also worked with highly capable people who know what they need to do differently and still struggle to change. Often, what gets in the way is not a lack of knowledge or skill. It is something deeper: the stories people tell themselves, identities they have constructed, expectations they have internalized, fears that influence their choices, or an unclear sense of what they are actually moving toward.

In this interactive session, coach and leadership strategist Bill Mains will introduce Freedom From, Freedom For, a practical framework for working at this deeper level of human development. Participants will explore how to help people recognize what may be constraining their growth, clarify the person and leader they want to become, and turn greater self-awareness into purposeful action. Attendees will leave with a simple framework and practical questions they can immediately use in coaching, leadership development, and talent development conversations.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

Recognize when a development challenge goes beyond a knowledge or skill gap.
Apply the Freedom From, Freedom For framework to identify what may be constraining growth and clarify what someone is moving toward.
Use practical questions to turn self-awareness into intentional action.

About our Speaker:

Bill Mains is an ICF-certified coach, leadership strategist, educator, and facilitator who has spent more than 25 years helping people grow as leaders and human beings. He currently serves as Director of Member Development at the Center for Conscientious Leadership in Silicon Valley, where he designs and leads developmental experiences for accomplished professionals and executives. His work includes coaching, retreats, facilitated peer communities, and programs focused on character, self-awareness, purpose, and leadership.

Bill is also the founder of Monisum, a coaching and leadership development practice focused on helping accomplished professionals bring greater alignment to who they are and how they live, work, and lead. He serves on the Board of Directors of the International Coaching Federation San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (ICF SFBAC). His approach draws from leadership development, coaching, counseling, theology, and business, and reflects a deep interest in both what people hope to accomplish and who they are becoming in the process. Bill holds an MBA, an M.Ed. in Community Counseling, an M.A. in Theological Ethics, and a certificate in Evidence-Based Coaching.

ATDBR is a pre-approved provider and is authorized to provide continuing education programs that qualify for initial eligibility and recertification of the Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) and Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) credentials. Krewe members can expect to experience small breakout discussions facilitated by local industry leaders and based on the ATD Talent Development Capability Model. Take the free ATD Talent Development Capability model self-assessment to know which breakout room is best for you!

During Krewes of Practice meetings, members are encouraged to share their scores/learning purpose to help grow our community and to help develop more targeted discussions, resources, and social media content. Resources curated during Krewe meetings will be made available through ATDBR.org member's portal.
