Many organizations undertake some form of planning activity. Even when formal planning has not been present, there are usually underlying strategies at work. Sometimes these strategies have been implemented purely by accident or through some evolutionary process. In other cases, a larger organization may have a formal strategic plan in place and leave the next level planning to individual departments.  How can you be sure that your departmental strategic plan makes sense and fits with the larger organization?

We will:

  • discuss importance of strategic planning
  • think about who needs to be involved
  • look at a range of steps you can take in your process
  • practice a little with templates
  • examine importance of reporting
  • check out a few examples of effective reports.
