Topic: How to be an Independent Thinker in a Conventional World

It can be hard work to be a trailblazer; challenging the prevailing wisdom, refusing to stay the course, and pushing others to deviate from the ordinary.  Sometimes, especially in talent development/people strategy roles, we're merely told to study someone else's "best practices," replicate them, and voila - innovation!  But disruption requires incrementally and consistently doing things different every day and exploring novel ideas from a variety of perspectives.  Independent thinkers believe in what they do, take risks and proudly wear the badge of outlier as they create  something  new and unexpected that has an impact and changes something for the better.

Speakers: Robin Schooling, Managing Partner - HR + People Strategy Peridus Group

Robin has spent her career in HR and Recruiting with the stories and battle scars to match.  She's traversed diverse industries including finance, gaming, 3PL and health care, and believes we make organizations better when we make HR  better.  With extensive senior level experience in all areas of human resource management, she's a versatile, certified (HRCI and  SHRM), and accomplished HR leader, strategist, and advisor. Robin is a regular speaker to global HR and business audiences (she's spoken on 3 continents), has a long running HR blog, and has written for Fast Company, Recruiting Daily, Certified Magazine, HR Examiner, SHRM, and other  sites and publications.

Robin was named one of the 2019's Top 100 HRTech Influencers by HR Executive Magazine, the Huffington Post named her one of the Top 100 Most Social Human Resource Experts on Twitter, and Glassdoor has listed her as one of the HR and Recruiting Thought Leaders to Follow.  She's Board Co-Chair with HR Open Source, manages the Carnival of HR (a long running blogging carnival) and is co-host of DrivethruHR, one of the longest continuously running HR radio shows/podcasts which reaches several thousand listeners per episode.  She has served on the Advisory Boards for HROnboard (Australia), BlackbookHR, the Louisiana Business Network, and Geaux Veterans.  Robin lives in Baton Rouge, LA where she's a fervent and unapologetic New Orleans Saints fan and continues on her quest to search out the perfect French75.
