We strive for engagement because we know active involvement with content advances the learning process. But how do you do it effectively and efficiently? In this session, Rebecca will share her teaching toolbox of high- and low-tech activities and technologies that help learners engage and interact more deeply with content.
Participants will be able to:
- Discuss the challenges and opportunities surrounding engaged learning - Experiment with a variety of engaged learning techniques - Determine how engaged learning fits within your approach to instructional design
Rebecca Burdette Director, LSU CxC rburdette@lsu.edu
As the Director of the LSU Communication across the Curriculum (CxC), Rebecca leads university-wide efforts to advance the professional communication skills of undergraduate students. Her team is comprised of teachers, trainers, and communication coaches who work with faculty to integrate communication training into course content, and with students to coach them individually on communication skills. Rebecca joined the LSU CxC team in 2008 and in 2010, CxC was nationally recognized for innovation in collegiate teaching and learning and commended as an institutionalized program “to which other universities should aspire.” Rebecca has a bachelor’s degree in advertising, a master’s in communications, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in organizational training and leadership development. Prior to leveraging bring her training experience into an academic setting, Rebecca worked as a trainer, public relations specialist, and marketing manager for 15+ years within the sectors of tourism, higher education, and healthcare. Rebecca is always “thinking outside the box” and her perspective directly benefits the organizations for which she’s worked. The most recent example of this is TEDxLSU which Rebecca co-founded in 2013 and continues to curate each year.
