Free Webinar: 6 Keys to Creating Learning Experiences that Inspire and Engage
Leaders, like teachers, transform people’s lives. That’s because leadership and teaching are both focused on bringing out the brilliance that exists within people. But what often happens is that people who teachundefinedin classrooms, meetings, workshops, or any setting where learning happensundefineddon’t know how to bring out the best from others effectively. They tell people what to do, rather than teach them how, and are often disappointed in the outcomes.
In this presentation, applied learning expert Dr. Vicki Halsey will show you how to structure your presentations in a way that deeply engages and energizes learners because it keeps them front and center every step of the way.
You’ll learn how to create content that is clear, relevant, easily absorbed, and readily retained because it is tailored to each audience’s specific needs, abilities, and inclinations.
Drawing from her new book, Brilliance by Design, Vicki will share a six-step ENGAGE model that radically improves the learning transfer process to drive optimum individual and organizational results.
You will learn proven ideas, strategies and practices that will enable you to:
- Energize learners at the beginning of any learning session;
- Help them Navigate the new content and Generate personal meaning and relevance from it
- Apply their learning to the real world
- Gauge and celebrate their progress
- Extend their learning to action
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to dramatically improve your effectiveness for sharing new concepts, ideas, and content!

Invest in Yourself in 2011
A couple of years ago, a group of ASTD members (including me) and a few non-members started meeting on a semi-regular basis to discuss professional development books that we selected to read. Knowing that others were reading the same book and expecting me to be able to discuss what I had read gave me the discipline to read books that I would never have read on my own. Since that time, I have read a lot of really great books and, even better, been able to incorporate what I learned into my professional and personal life.
For example, from Monday Morning Leadership by David Cottrell:
“Look around this libraryundefinedthere are more than a thousand books in here. More than half of those books are about management and leadership. Executives call me to help them solve business problems. I’ve never ‘made up’ a solution. None of their problems are unique. The value I offer is the wisdom of all the people who have written these books.
“You learn more by reading more. I’m living proof that the more you learn, the more you earn.
“Did you know most people don’t read one non-fiction book in a year? Not one. You’d think books must be scare or expensive. But there is an abundance of books at every public library, waiting for people to simply walk in and check them outundefinedat no chargeundefinedfree!
“Now let’s suppose you decided to read one book a month on management or leadership. Most books are between 12 and 20 chapters, so you’d be reading about half a chapter a day, which would take you about 10 minutes. During the next year, you’d have read 12 books. Do you think you’d know more about management and leadership if you read 12 books a year on the subject?”

- improving your personal knowledge,
- finding new resources to incorporate into your professional and personal life,
· and increasing your earning potential (“the more you learn, the more you earn”),
